David Calder in the<BR>1997/98 RSC production
David Calder (1946-) played Prospero in the 1997/98 RSC production of The Tempest. Joining him are Scott Handy as Ariel, Penny Layden as Miranda, Robert Glenister as Caliban, Adrian Schiller as Trinculo, Evroy Deer as Ferdinand and Barry Stanton as Stephano. This production, directed by Adrian Noble, had an amazing set design and amazing performances by Caliban and Ariel. Prospero was nothing special, and some of the other actors seemed to be sleepwalking through their performances, but the themes of slavery, political commentary and homosexuality were well illustrated and over all, this production was mesmerizing.
