Larry Yando
Having once played Timon, essayed Parolles and Enobarbus, Larry Yando once again takes center stage as the mercurial Prospero, magician and vengeance mad father in the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre's The Tempest. With a deft directorial touch by Barbara Gaines, this stage becomes truly a magical land, the stage standing in for ship's deck and wooden island, the spirits sailing through the air with an ease faintly reminiscent of the Lyric Opera of Chicago's Rhine maidens. Yando leads the cast with the aplomb of the Pied Piper and his children, the complexity of his personality (is he truly purely vengeful, does he have forgiveness within him, is his transformation believable?) a subtle play instead of bombastic resolution.
