"There 's daggers in men's smiles" Act II, scene iv Written: 1605 Synopsis: Macbeth, aspiring to the throne of Scotland and egged on by his Lady, murders King Duncan whilst he guests at his house. Ah foul calumny! A curse on those who abuse the rule of hospitality! Macbeth gets nervy, Lady goes nutty and MacDuff doesn't like them -- so, because he is the only one of prophecy "not of woman born", he kills Macbeth and hands the throne over to Duncan's silly son Malcolm.
